A Day on the Road in Bishpool–Newport 🚐

The day kicks off early in Bishpool ☀️, with the van rattling down Bishpool Lane before the traffic really starts to bite. I park near Ringland Way, only to realize the delivery spot is tucked behind a row of terraced houses that seem designed specifically to make van access impossible 🚫. Cue the awkward reversing, hazards blinking, and a silent prayer no one’s watching.

By mid-morning, I’m weaving past Bishpool Park, where the kids are already racing around ⚽. A detour takes me along Chepstow Road, where the café smell is irresistible—so I duck into a little local spot for a bacon bap and strong tea ☕. That’s the fuel that keeps the wheels turning.

Of course, no Bishpool run is complete without a battle with the steep side streets. The GPS swears the shortcut will save me two minutes, but the van groans like it’s climbing Everest 🏔️. I eventually get to the top, only to discover the house has three flights of narrow concrete steps. My arms will thank me later.

The highlight of the afternoon? Chatting with a resident who insists I take a detour past St. Julians School because “the view’s better that way.” She wasn’t wrong—rolling hills in the distance and a sliver of the River Usk peeking through 🌊.

As the sun dips, I finally get the van pointed back toward the depot. Bishpool has its quirks, but it’s got charm too. And hey—at least I only stalled once on that incline 😅.
